Upon leaving the flour mill factory, because it was time for lunch soon, we decided to look for a ramen shop.
「Noww then, let’s look for a ramen shop.~」
When we’re looking for a ramen shop, Elena raised her head and stared at something.
「Seiji-sama, what’s that portrait of a man with big beard?」
Apprently, Elena seemed to be worried about the billboard advertisement. When I saw the billboard, I think it somewhat resembled the Delaidos’ king.
「That’s a billboard of whiskey.」
「What’s whiskey?」
「It’s a liquor made from wheat.」
「Is that so? That man is holding a wheat in hand.」
「Then, let’s also buy whiskey.」
「An-chan, are you going to have Elena drink whiskey?」
「I-, I’m not allowed to drink liquor?」
「No, that’s not it, remember the dwarf in the weapon shop? It’s a souvenir to that person.」
「I see, that person really loves liquor.」
「Err… speaking of souvenir… the children at Aria’s place… can I buy something for them?」
「That’s right! There’s so much wheat flour too, maybe we can make something delicious with it?」
「Yes, it sounds good! Those children will surely be glad.」
「Well then, after eating ramen and a little shopping, let’s go to the other world to hand over the souvenirs.」
「Yes.」「Ye~s.」
It’s been decided to go shopping.
First, I bought a whiskey which won a gold medal at a famous contest. Also, it’s 5,000 yen for only 180 ml, it’s so expensiveee!1
I also bought fresh milk and Hokkaido eggs2 to be used in the wheat flour dish afterwards. I wonder if this is fine as a souvenir?
We finally found a delicious ramen shop and sat at the counter, the 3 of us ordered a different ramen each.
「Hotate yum-yum.~ I’ll give this one scallop to Elena-chan.」
「Aya-san, thank you.」
*Grr* this impertinent Aya.
「Then, I’ll give this 2 slices of roasted pork.」
「Seiji-sama, thank you!」
Sparks flew between Me and Aya when we glared at each other. Elena ate the miso butter corn with scallops and roasted pork ramen with great relish. Come to think of it, Elena is eating normally using chopsticks, she already became good on how to use the chopsticks.
「Well then, let’s go to the『Suga town』first.」
「Yes.」「Ye~s.」
We teleported to『Suga town』from the back alley in Sapporo.
From there, I went around to each guilds of various towns.
1.『Suga town』
・『Adventurers’ Guild』

When I brought the『Slimes’ nucleus』to the【Suga town】, our guild points went over 100 and our adventurers’ rank rose from『E』to『D』. Incidentally, the guild points required in order to become『C』rank seemed to be 300.
Also, our Aurum increased to a total of 18, 350 A. It’ll be fine even if I don’t earn money for a while.
As such, we went to see the dwarf occhan of the weapons and armors shop for the first souvenir.
「Hello~」
「Oh, the lad from the last time, what’s your name again?」
「Hahaha! We haven’t introduced ourselves to each other, I’m Seiji.」
「As for me, my name is『Gamudo』. It’s nice to meet you again.」
Gamudo-san and I shook hands firmly.
「By the way, what’s your business for coming today? Weapon? Or Armor?」
「Before that, I’ve brought a souvenir today.」
「Souvenir, you mean……」
I put the【Whiskey】on the table with a broad smile.
「It’s not Ale, is it? But, a liquor?」
「Yes, it’s a liquor that became #1 in a liquor competition of my hometown.」
「What is it!!?」
Gamudo-san leaned forward suddenly.
I took out a glass from the inventory and poured a little bit of whiskey. At the same time, a gentle fragrance of sweet malt spread around.
「W-, What is this fragrance! This is a fragrance of liquor!?」
「Well then, take a sip.」
「U-, Umu.」
When Gamudo-san fearfully brought the glass close to his mouth, a strong fragrance went through his nose. Gamudo-san flinched for a moment, but made up his mind and poured it into his mouth.
With a *thud*, the instant it entered his mouth, a refreshing rich flavor spread from his mouth throughout his body.
「……」
Gamudo-san had been immersed in the lingering aftertaste in silence, suddenly, a tear drop ran down from his eye.
「Ojii-sama! What happened to you!?」
「It’s a lie…… Such a delicious liquor, it’s impossible to be from this world……」
「Was it so delicious?」
「Oh, oh, it’s not in the delicious level anymore……」
「It’s good that you’re happy, it’s worth that I brought it with me.」
「Shit, if you brought such a delicious liquor, what am I suppose to do! I’ve got no money to buy this delicious liquor.」
「We didn’t come here to sell liquor today, we’ve come to buy armor. Besides, I brought this for you as a souvenir.」
「Is that so, armor! Sure thing! I’ll make the best armors for you guys!」
Gamudo-san became excited and measured our size for the armors, since he said that it would take a week to complete the armors, we left Gamudo-san’s shop.
Translator notes and reference:
1Okay, the whiskey they’re referring to is Nikka whiskey. Thank you Tokanya and not_onizoka-gto.
2Not sure but apparently, major egg farms throughout Hokkaido primarily raise two breeds of laying chickens: Julia (white-shelled eggs) and Boris Brown (reddish brown-shelled eggs). – Hokkaidofoodlibrary
3Fatty slices of roasted or braised pork. Chashu is a very common topping, and standard bowls of ramen usually come with one or two slices of it. Most ramen-ya also serve Chashumen (chashu ramen) which is a ramen dish with additional pieces of chashu. Kakuni (braised pork belly) is served instead of chashu at some restaurants. – Japan-guide
4Hotate/Scallop ramen.
5Miso butter corn ramen.
6Apparently, drinking alcohol ‘straight’ means without ice. Thanks, Fleabiter.

No trading how to make alcohol to the dwarves for a % of the profits and ores etc?!
Japanese MC’s please be more enterprising!
Anyway, the price of flour seems cheap as hell.

Based on how much he was selling it for I highly doubt he was doing it for profit anymore and was more so to help with their food shortage in the territory.

25kg of flour… I think 100g-250g = a standard loaf? I don’t remember. I tried making bread before. I spent hours kneading it and it didn’t stretch properly 😦

Maybe try “Isekai C-mart Hanjouki”? MC randomly discovers he has the ability to freely go between earth and a fantasy world, and starts selling items between the two.

I saw that earlier. It’s seemed just focused on shopkeeping with the crux of the story being on the people who visit the shop and no exploring/building up an empire of commerce. I’ll read it on your rec. Have a nice day, Jay.

Hours, lol… 10 minutes is enough usually. Then you let it rest for a while (30-45 mins typically, depends on the room temperature) to let the yeast do its work. I don’t know what’s a “standard loaf” over there, but I think about 1kg of flour per one would be closer.

The question is, do they know yeast in Elena’s world…?

I was following instructions from a book called Bread Revolution. Bread looks so delicious.
I followed the instructions perfectly. The problem was that it broke apart too early as it was being stretched. I think I was trying to make a (crispy?) flatbread. I even used the same brand of flour as the book ;~;

always love the exaggerated reactions lol. tho honestly if someone had only drank relatively bad/weak sake/ale… they would probably find high proof whiskey to be a bit too powerful to enjoy when they first drank it. can’t see it as them just praising the taste… i would actually wager they would feel the burn and spit it out before throwing around allegations of poison XD
still tho, always a fun scene.

It probably has something to do with Gamudo being a dwarf? I known nothing about liquors tho.

proof shouldn’t be the issue. Drinks with exceptionally high alcohol content (50-75%) like absinthe are quite old. It probably has more to do with the assumption that alcohols have different classes and that there are some wines/ales that are just all around superior to others, rather than the difference in taste being purely subjective…which it is…
LikeLike
ah that was wrong. Absenthe is 45-90% alcohol.

I find it weird how everything is always delicious in Japanese novels, manga, and anime. They totally went overboard when Beerus didn’t destroy Earth because of the good Japanese food. We get it you have good food you don’t have to brag ლ(ಠ_ಠ ლ)

The Japanese are generally food nuts. They love talking about food, and really high class food is worth a fortune to them. Some light/web novels go a bit overboard with the food porn… Elf Tensei comes to mind (although it’s otherwise really good).

Pretty sure the whiskey he is referring to is Yoichi, probably the most famous whisky from Hokkaido. It also could be referring to Hibiki, which has won several awards and is generally thought of as one of Japan’s premier whiskies. It’s from Osaka, however, so it also might not be that.

Hey couldn’t Seiji just, oh I dunno, sell his solid gold coins in Japan. I mean they’re solid gold for crying out loud it’s gotta be worth a good bit right?
LikeLiked by 1 person
yup yup~ or change into gold block. Coins might be a problem, but gold cube should be fine~
LikeLike
They are probably old shekel style coins which are made by hitting a small piece of gold with a hammer that has a design on it. Anyone could make one given the materials.
LikeLike
What I meant is use that money to buy some gold blocks, or gems, then sell them back at Japan. Gems might be troublesome but gold blocks should be pretty liquidable.
LikeLike
Yes and No… I don’t know how things work in Japan but if you try and sell a large quantity of gold in the US, that gets you flagged. IRS will be all over your ass like “where did you get all the gold?” Thou If your desperate enough, you could sell it for cash at all the different buy gold places for a fraction of its worth -_-
hmm~ I think I recall a novel or show where the protagonist comes back from a fantasy world with like 100,000 gold coins and one of the girls starts a company just to launder the gold quietly cause melted down the gold was worth Billions.
LikeLike
I don’t know about “a fraction of it’s worth” but if you just sell it a little at a time at different separated stores like pawn shops or jewellers and maybe only 2 or 3 coins per shop at around 3 shops per week you could easily make a profit and live off it with plenty to spare. Of course this will only work if you don’t go to the same pawn shop or jeweller more than once or twice. Also if need be you could just sell it to “less reputable people who don’t ask as many questions” as a last resort.

But if you sell it just a few coins at a time, it would take forever for me to get enough money to buy an orphanage… and then bulldoze it.

Japanese Alcohol translations always bug me… Please say “alcohol” and not “Sake”
in Japan, “Sake” translates to “Alcohol” Japan doesn’t have separate words for Alcohol and Sake. In English, Sake = Rice Wine, an alcohol brewed from rice. Whiskey having been brewed from wheat so Whiskey is not Sake, so Whiskey cant win a Sake brewing compention, thou it could have won an Alcohol brewing contest.
Funny thing is. Basically 99% of Japanese novels that send the MC to a fantasy world get sent to western-style world where rice is either super rare, not cultivated, or non-existent. And most everyone keeps translating Sake kanji to “Sake” and not “Alcohol”, then they have the MC drink the local “sake”(Alcohol) which isn’t really sake but usually an Ale, mead, or a wine (grape).
Not 100% on this, but im pretty sure in japan all hard liquor is refered to as “Sake” and even Wine and beer are also sometimes refered to as Sake. thou I think they do have a word for beer but im not sure about wine (even thou sake = rice WINE)
I know this one of those common Japanese words that most everyone with a decent amount of experience understands and don’t really need translating (i.e. baka, hentai, family pronouns, honorifics ect…) and a lot of times TLs like to leave the word translated as its phonic spelling instead of translating it to English. But in the fantasy world setting this is just the one that keeps bugging me since I know its a common misunderstanding.

lol awesome, didn’t think I would get a response since it wasn’t the current chapter. anyway thanks, its my #1 pet peeve with translations. Especially when a someone translates a series where the MC is drinking Sake then is on a quest to find rice! because its not a food staple in this world and all Japanese need rice! And then in my head im like…. wait? these people don’t have rice? then how are they making Sake!?
That happened a couple of times when I first started reading novels and did the research and found out Sake is both a noun and Pro noun in Japan 😛
again, thank you for reading my rant lol

Sake is not rice wine. I went to a lecture on sake at a Japanese distillery and found out that’s the common mistake foreigners assume about sake that it equals rice wine. Rice wine is relatively different than true sake due to the way it’s processed and type of ingredients (like quality of rice etc). Sake is also different than western liquor. Any respectable sake brewer would punch you in the face (or throw you out of their shop) if you told them that Sake = rice wine.
LikeLike
wow, what a snobby post… and commenting on a 2 year old post… and missing the point of the rant -_-‘ .Sake is rice wine. Its just not a true wine, but all sake is rice based which is the point of my rant. in truth it really needs its own category but people know the drink as a rice wine and its easier to make my point without bringing up a culture misunderstanding and calling it something like “rice beer”, “rice alcohol” or “rice based drink that’s not a wine but is still liquor made from rice.”
